What to Buy Cool Outdoorsy Kids for Christmas
With three kids of different ages, friends and family often ask what to get them for Christmas. Most kids these days have far too many toys and I love the idea of ‘Something you want, something you need, something to wear and something to read’.
So, in the spirit of The Sound of Music ‘here are a few of our favourite things’ (and don’t even get me started on brown paper packages wrapped up with string – yes it is classy and very chic if done well but there are so many better options out there Julie Andrews!).
If you also have a stylish country mama to buy for – check out the perfect present list for her here.
Links and descriptions for all items in our gift guide can be found below the pretty pictures!
A Fantastic Vintage Ride on Car
We bought our now six year old daughter this classic style ride on Vilac Metal Car (Red) for her first Christmas. It still gets played with and has the advantage of looking awesome in the hallway when she finally outgrows it!
Get Baking with these Meri Meri Cutters
We love to bake and with these Meri Meri Cookie Cutters kids love to make their own names or gifts for friends.
Kids Hunter Wellies
Why oh why don’t they do these cool Kids Constellations Hunter Wellies in my size. I want them. I need them. Can’t have them.
Something To Read
I credit the amazing David Walliams with being the man that got my reluctant reader to love books. Thank you. Thank You. Thank You David. These books are funny, slightly naughty and highly addictive. David Walliams Series 1 – Best Box Set Ever 5 Books Collection Set (Billionaire Boy, Mr Stink, The Boy in the Dress, Gansta Granny, Rat burger)
A Ride On Tractor
If you’re a country girl (yes this was my daughter’s 4th birthday request) then the only kind of ride-on you will want is one of these John Deere Ride-on Tractor with Loader and Detachable Trailer. My kids drive it around the garden collecting apples and compost materials, pull in logs for the fire and kids always fight over it when friends come to play. Well worth the investment in my book!
A Cool Swing
OK so this Personalised Swing is a pretty pricey option, a plank of wood on a rope from a tree is at least as good. But as pretty swings go, this takes the biscuit.
You may have seen this awesome Cowboys and Indians WigWam on our instagram feed. In the summer it is always out in the garden and in the winter it makes a great TV den or reading hideaway.
A Fabulous Bodywarmer
My eldest daughter has pretty much grown out of the toys era now and is setting her sights on all things fashion. She has been eyeing up this Joules Body Warmer for quite a while. She had better write a nice letter to Father Christmas!
Christmas isn’t Christmas without Christmas Pyjamas but apparently only a onesie will do this year. Everyone loves this one from John Lewis and it comes in a great range of sizes. Christmas Onesie
No really, I’m not joking. We have the Bird Bingo version but seeing as my kids are desperate for a real dog and I keep saying no…maybe this Dog Bingo will help? No I don’t think so either but a mama can live in hope.
Thank You Cards
Start as you mean to go on and teach your kids the value of saying ‘thank you’ with these smart little Thank You Cards
They are soft and furry and are foxes. Surely I don’t need to say anything else to convince you that these Fox Slippers should be on your kids’ list.
By far and away the best present we bought for our kids last year. This Celestron Telescope is easy enough for the kids to use by themselves but strong enough to get great images.
There are hundreds on the market but I love this one too much. Traditional Christmas colours and nice and soft. This Christmas Jumper is a winner!
We have had a puppet theatre like this Melissa & Doug Deluxe Puppet Theatre for years. Whilst the 3 hour long ‘shows’ might make you reach for the gin, they keep the kids happy for days on end. Great value in my book!
Get Out and About in the Wild
This brilliant book gives you dozens of ideas for adventures and great places to go. This edition Wild Guide Lake District and Yorkshire Dales: Hidden Places and Great Adventures – Including Bowland and South Pennines covers our neck of the woods but there are plenty of other counties and regions covered in the series. Go exploring!
